“We will make efforts to promote a credible international arbitration environment.”

[Segye News] The U.S. Arbitration Association / Center for International Dispute Resolution (AAA/ICDR) Korea Advisory Committee (Chairman Kim Hong-seok, photo) will hold “the first meeting to promote international arbitration” at the Seoul International Arbitration Center in Jongno-gu, Seoul on the 16th.
AAA/ICDR is the world’s largest international dispute settlement agency established under the U.S. Federal Arbitration Act in 1926, and the Korean Advisory Council is a non-profit organization launched in March with the aim of reflecting Korean corporate positions in international arbitration rules. The meeting will discuss the current status, flow and revitalization of international arbitration. Won Dong-jin, director-general of the Trade Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, and Richard Namark, senior vice president of the American Arbitration Association (AAA), will attend the meeting.

“If Korea wants to play a central role in the world beyond Northeast Asia in international arbitration, it should create a transparent and reliable international arbitration environment rather than simply emphasizing its geopolitical position,” Chairman Kim said. “We will discuss mid- and long-term strategies for this.”
